The group life insurance (TGL) provides tax-free compensation to your survivors if you die before reaching the age of 66. There is a basic sum, child supplement and funeral grant.

How do I know whether I have insurance?

As a wage-earner, you have insurance in the event of death if you work for a private or cooperative undertaking.

Who is eligible for insurance compensation?

One of your relatives can apply for compensation:

  • husband

  • wife

  • registered partner

  • cohabiting partner

  • child

What happens when we have received a claim?

A case officer will review the claim. If we require more infor­mation, we will get in touch with the person who made the claim.When we are ready, we will notify your relative of how much compensation we will pay. Details of the decision will be sent by letter.

Submit a claim

A claim can be made using a form that can be filled in online. Print out the form and send it to Afa För­säkring, 106 27 Stockholm. Both the relative and the deceased's employer must sign the form.Always include the death certificate and relatives report, which can be ordered from the Swedish Tax Authority.The claim form is in Swedish.

How much is the compensation?

The compensation is paid out as a lump sum. The amount depends on your age at the time of death, working hours, and the surviving dependents.

Who submits the claim to the insurance?

A family member or another person who has been assigned this task.

Can I decide myself who will receive the compensation?

Yes, you can change the order of the beneficiaries. You do not need to do anything if you are satisfied with the default beneficiaries described under the heading “Who do we pay compensation to?”

How does the insurance apply in the event of death after the age of 66?

The insurance normally only applies in the event of death before your 66th birthday.

If you are still employed and working after turning 66, the insurance continues to apply. The insurance does not apply if you have been absent from work for more than 90 days.

Is the compensation taxable?

No, the compensation paid out is not subject to income tax.

Does the insurance apply when I am away from work?

Yes, the insurance applies as long as you are employed. You remain insured even if you are absent from work for six consecutive months, regardless of the reason.

What is Family Protection Insurance?

Family Protection Insurance (Familje­skydd) is a life insurance policy that can be purchased voluntarily by employees in private-sector companies and by self-employed individuals, in addition to the Group Life Insurance (TGL).

You decide for yourself how much money your family will receive and over how many years the benefit will be paid out.
